We Finally Have A Release Date for the Hotline Miami 2 Level Editor
The team over at Dennaton Games have announced the release date for the highly anticipated level editor for Hotline Miami 2. The dance-club murder fest action game has become somewhat of a cult classic in indie and mainstream PC gaming communities for its pulse pounding action, brutally hard challenge level, and rich story-telling. Fans have been looking forward to getting their hands on this editor since the game was released back on March 10th 2015, and now we finally have our chance to check it out! The release date for the Hotline Miami 2 level editor will be on December 10th. This is for the BETA version and it will appear on STEAM only, as this will give the developers access to the forum which will make it easier for them to trace system bugs. Since the series ended with Hotline Miami 2, this is an awesome way for the fans to get more Hotline Miami, and the games creators watch the community put their spin on different levels and stories.
The only thing i am really bummed about is the fact that you can’t add your own music to custom levels (that Perturbator or Carpentur Brut playlist i was going to make will remain a dream). Though this will be hard for fans, you have to understand the legal limitations in play here and it makes sense why they wouldn’t be able to include it since people will be sharing the levels(music) online. Despite this, I am still really excited and think this is going to be an awesome release. I personally cannot wait to see what the fans, my friends, and myself can create with the Hotline Miami 2 level editor.
Take a look at what the Hotline Miami 2 level editor will feature below (from Dennaton).
1. The beta is on STEAM ONLY. The forum makes it easier to gather bugs and the automatic update makes sure everyone is playing the correct version.
2. The beta is WINDOWS ONLY for now. The editor will support Mac and Linux later on. No editor for PS3, PS4 or Vita.
3. WORKSHOP IS NOT AVAILABLE AT THE BEGINNING but will be added later. Levels can be shared locally by sending the level folders around.
4. EVERYONE CAN GET ACCESS TO THE BETA WITHOUT INVITE! So we don’t need your Steam information or anything, you do this yourself when it’s available. More info on how you do that on release date.
5. ALL CONTENT IS AVAILABLE FROM THE START (some minor features will be added later).
6. NO PROMISES THAT LEVELS MADE IN THE BETA WILL CARRY OVER TO THE FINAL VERSION. Things will change during the course of the beta as we fix and update the code, so no promises that levels will stay the same or survive the whole trip.
7.THE PLAN IS TO HAVE THE BETA OPEN DURING DECEMBER TILL EARLY JANUARY and then have final version out shortly after that.
8. NO CUSTOM MUSIC EDITOR. If we let people get free music when they download levels we are viewed as a illegal file sharing tool. There is also impossible to make sure that if people added a track that the artist of that track is cool with the fact that he/she/they are in HLM.
9. NO CUSTOM SPRITE EDITOR from us but other people have already created their own and they work great.
10. The plan is to have VIDEO TUTORIALS up before the 10th (or quite soon after) but I think you will figure out most of it without our help.
Are you excited for the release of the Hotline Miami 2 level editor? What kind of blood thirsty levels will you create? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
CrossCode is the current indie game project of game developers, Radical Fish Games. CrossCode is a retro 2D Action RPG that is reminiscent of games like the Legend of Zelda, Chrono Trigger, and Lufia. The story of CrossCode is set in an MMO of the distant future but this isn’t any ordinary MMO; CrossCode takes place in a place called the CrossWorlds which is a real planet that features highly technological areas and beautifully lush outdoor fields. Players connect to the CrossWorlds remotely via physical avatars with all 5 senses allowing them to experience the world in full. Alongside the planets natural inhabitants; players will also encounter other avatars as NPC’s to chat with and pick up quests from.
Currently the game is still in development, but for fans of retro games, CrossCode certainly looks quite promising. The demo of the game is available for free download and the game is also in Early Access on Steam which can be bought now to help support the development of the game.
The main character is Lea, an avatar with a speech malfunction rendering her mute; on top of this she has no memory and needs to relearn everything again within in the MMO. Since Crosscode is an action RPG, there’s a leveling component, plenty of skills, and tons of quests to keep things interesting. There’s no shortage of things to do within the world of CrossCode. Aside from quests and various characters to chat and interact with, players will find battle to be the most rewarding of the games features. Fans of retro games like “Chrono Trigger” will appreciate the art style of the game, as the environments and special attacks are visually pleasing and fun to use. Obviously, as you level up you will get bigger and badder powers that are helpful for taking out larger groups of enemies.
The combat is interesting and focuses on powerful balls of energy which are hurled at enemies that can be used for both combat and to interact with various puzzle objects in the game. There’s also a melee element, which the game switches between nicely, despite using the same key for both form of combat. Using energy balls are crucial to solving the various puzzles that CrossCode throws at you through out the game.
In terms of audio and music, CrossCode has some very fitting sound effects which are great and the music suits the game well. Getting this wrong in a game can be a noticeable pain point, but it seems like the developers have really nailed it so far with this one.
As someone who enjoys Action RPGs, CrossCode is certainly entertaining. It’s an RPG that is truly feels like a game for the SNES or SEGA Genesis. With an interesting world, great music, gameplay, and visual aesthetic, CrossCode has all the makings of a great modern retro game. The combat is fun and requires, strategy in order to beat bosses. The dialogue is well written and presented well. I found this to be a fun filled experience that will surely make waves upon its final release once the Indiegogo campaign ends. CrossCode is promising and it’s certainly enjoyable to play; the gameplay is solid, the graphics are nostalgic, and it has a familiar stlye that many of classic action RPG fans will appreciate. If you love action RPG’s, you should keep an eye on CrossCode as the game should finish it’s development soon and hopefully be released on PC & STEAM soon enough.

Lobo with shotguns is slated for release on Steam PC and Mac sometime in 2016 and goddamn am I excited to sink my fangs into this one!

Mighty Retro Zero is a Beautifully Addicting Retro Indie Game
Indie game studio Kronbits is known for creating puzzle games like Ninja Twins and Inkanians as well as the short running game “The Running Dead”; now the company has turned to the Action-Adventure genre to create the retro arcade style game, Mighty Retro Zero. This minimalistic indie game leverages a small color palette of only 8 colors (wow)! Combined with its use of retro game play mechanics and an interesting score of bleeps and bloops. Mighty Retro Zero is a highly addictive homage to retro games.
Might Retro Zeros controls are limited and players are required to use the left and right arrows keys to move with the Z and X keys to jump and shoot enemies; the up key is used to climb ropes to pick up an object with the down key being used to slide to move under obstacles. The controls may take some getting used to especially as it’s very easy to pick up and object instead of climbing which could be a little frustrating at times.
Graphically, Mighty Retro Zero looks exactly as it’s described; retro pixels graphics and the levels that mimic famous retro games certainly look just right making it a great nostalgia trip for fans of those games. The in-game music feels like an homage to classic retro arcade video games and emulates it well. This helps make Mighty Retro Zero feel just like the old retro games it pays tribute to.
Mighty Retro Zero becomes progressively more difficult as the games goes on which gives players time to learn the controls and get to grips with climbing walls, moving objects and killing enemies. This doesn’t mean the beginning stages are easy however as it doesn’t take much to kill you, one touch from an enemy or a spike will instantly kill you and send you back to the start of the level making it pretty brutal from the start but at least the starting levels are easier. On top of the limited controls this could be a nightmare for some players especially those who dislike difficult games.
Mighty Retro Zero is one of those games that players will love or hate with very little middle ground due to the nature of it; personally, the game is not for me for a variety of reasons. While being an action game it feels very much like a platformer which is not usually something I would play and the controls are very off-putting to me even after getting used to them; the music in the game is enjoyable however and works well for Mighty Retro Zero.
Mighty Retro Zero is planned to be released Online as a Flash game, on Windows PC and on OUYA however the game could also be ported to Mac and Linux computers with the possibility of the game being brought to consoles such as the PS Vita. You can also play the free demo here.
