gbjam3

On August 1st, the indie gaming website Gamejolt began yet another new game jam; the GBJam3. Gamejolt has a long history of running some of the best and most interesting game jams on the web and this one is sizing up to be just as awesome! GBJam 3 is the third in a series of competitions that specifically feature games that pay homage to the style of the gameboy and gameboy color eras. The contest is running from August 1st – August 10th and only has four major rules.

  1. The aim of GBJam is to create a GameBoy themed game
  2. All assets must be created during the duration of the Jam
  3. Keep in the original GameBoy screen resolution of 160px x 144px
  4. Use only 4 colors in your game

The contest already has 90 submissions and encourages community members and developers a like to spread the word about their games through social media using the hashtag #gbjam3. So far, almost all game designs carry the green screen pixel art look and feel of the gameboy. While game types on the other hand vary from arcade, to platformer, parody, puzzle, action, and adventure.

Check out some of the contest submissions below and if you are a developer be sure to get in on this jam as soon as you can, time is running out!
